Here in the campo at Vall de Cavall, the colours are changing, and the same thing is happening in our restaurant kitchen too! We are always pushing the boundaries in our kitchen, to bring you local cuisine with a touch of the exotic, and we love to reflect the mood around us in our food. What better way to keep warm than to put on a cosy covering? And we do this with the food too, with hearty sauces to warm you from the inside, and filling wraps for traditionally light Spanish food such as octopus, because that’s what you need when the weather grows cooler.
Of course, we’re all starting to think about special meals for the festive season, and we will be coming up with some surprises to tempt your taste buds. Here at Vall de Cavall, we believe every day is a celebration of good food, and we have some suggestions from our regular menu for you, if you want to get into the Christmas spirit early. Start off with a lobster salad with tropical fruits, or sauteed foie gras with mushrooms and Pedro Ximinez sauce, if you want a hot starter. In Spain, there is no celebration without Pedro Ximinez in the mix somewhere!
We have some stunning choices of main courses too. There’s our Segovia-style suckling pig, with sweet potato, grilled tomahawk steak for two people, or venison tenderloin with red fruits sauce, as well as a good choice of fish dishes.
In case you’re wondering, a tomahawk steak is a thick rib-eye with the bone intact. It’s at least 2 inches (5cms) thick, and as the muscle in this steak is one of those less used by the cow, it produces a soft, tender steak with a nice marbling of fat that tastes as fabulous as it looks. It’s griddled to perfection, and there’s plenty for two people.
A great meal needs a good dessert to round it off, and we have lots of those! Each day, there’s a Vall de Cavall surprise dessert, and for a taste of luxury, try our black chocolate overdose. After all, Christmas is a time to spoil yourself, isn’t it? So take your time over a leisurely meal in our cosy restaurant, against the backdrop of the Montgo Mountain. Special times deserve special settings, and it doesn’t come much more special than our beautiful Valley of the Horses.
Due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, we are restricted on numbers, so booking is advisable to avoid disappointment. At the moment, we can only seat tables of 6, but the atmosphere in our restaurant is so happy and friendly, it’s like a big family house party. Come along with your family and friends and enjoy the unique Vall de Cavall dining experience. Christmas is a time to enjoy good food, good wine and good company, and we can promise you all of that here at Vall de Cavall. We look forward to sharing the season with you, and wish you every happiness for the New Year.
